Disney held their bi-annual D23 Expo at the Anaheim Convention Center, and in usual Disney tradition, they did not disappoint with their Disney Parks panel. Okay, so they disappointed a little bit, but overall, the panel was nothing short of spectacular and there’s a great number of great announcements to unpack here, so today, we’re taking a look at some of our favorite Disney Parks related news that came out of this year’s D23 Expo.
TRON Coaster Coming to Walt Disney World
Get, excited programs! The TRON franchise certainly does not get enough love from The Walt Disney Company, not to mention the cancellation of TRON: Uprising and the constant cancellation of TRON 3 from moving forward in production. That’s why this new announcement from Disney is all the more exciting. Created as a double to its attraction from Shanghai Disneyland, this TRON coaster will be located within The Magic Kingdom’s Tomorrowland, so fans will be happy to learn they don’t need to book a flight to Shanghai to experience this attraction, will be debuting sometime in the early 2020s.
New Restaurant Coming to Epcot:
It’s not often that we get this excited about a restaurant, but this one is special because of its creativity and ability to fit into the theme that defines Epcot (whereas not all of the announcements from D23 were able to….we’re looking at you Guardians of the Galaxy). This new restaurant, located near Mission: Space will be space-themed which as Disney describes, will give you the feeling that you are actually dining in space. If the concept art is an indication, Disney Imagineering has really outdone themselves, and this is an experience we can’t wait to see in person.
Ratatouille Themed Attraction in the France Pavilion:
The idea of putting more intellectual properties into EPCOT isn’t something that is necessarily the best idea, but as long as those properties can properly stay true to the theme of the park, their presence shouldn’t be too bad. That being said, Ratatouille is one of Pixar’s best films, and has the perfect opportunity to fit into the French culture at Epcot’s World Showcase. As long as this attraction will be able to do that, its introduction should feel welcome.
The Scope and Detail of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge:
Naturally, Disney had to show off their biggest project in the works, the upcoming Star Wars Land, now officially titled, Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. Of course, we’re blown away by what Disney had to show, and the model is rich with an immense amount of detail that we find ourselves even more impressed than we were before. Should Disney be able to pull off the scope of what’s shown in their model, then we can be sure that Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will be something truly spectacular.
New Star Wars Resort Coming to Walt Disney World:
The immersive look of this upcoming Star Wars hotel is enough to have us thrilled, and we can’t wait to experience what it has to offer. Disney is taking little time to cash in on their Star Wars investments, and for the most part, we’re glad it’s paying off in ways that are impressive. This will not only be a hotel, but one that carries an immersive theme throughout-even to the point that the windows in your room will look out into space. We can’t wait to learn more when this hotel finally opens.
