How to Prepare for the Return of ‘Ducktales’ This Weekend

It’s hard to believe that we are just days away from the highly-nostalgic reboot of the spectacular DuckTales series, which premieres this Saturday, August 12th, on Disney XD. So, in order to contain our excitement and properly prepare for this exciting new series, we’re sharing five ways we think you can properly prepare and immerse yourself in the wonderful world of Scrooge McDuck and keep your excitement levels high when the series finally does hit this weekend.

Marathon the Original ‘DuckTales’ Series:

The best possible thing that could come out of this new series is the possibility of reinvigorating the franchise and drawing interest back into the original series. It’s always something special to be able to share the things that many of us loved as kids with kids of our own, or in general that kids around the world will now be able to enjoy too. Therefore, why not celebrate the return of this show by celebrating the show that this source material is pulled from? Celebrate by watching (or in our case, re-watching) the original DuckTales series, many of which are available on DVD!

Go Further in Spectacular Comic-Book Form:

DuckTales is frequently known for it’s great serialized television series, but it lives on in many forms, including the very comic the original series was adapted from. DuckTales was based off the ‘Uncle Scrooge’ comics written and created by Carl Barks in 1952. Plenty of those comics have been reprinted and are available to purchase online. Further, be sure to check out the wonderful DuckTales comics recent and upcoming from  IDW Publishing, and the incredible Darkwing Duck comics written by Aaron Sparrow and James Silvani to celebrate the return of the terror that flaps in the night to the new series. We’ve covered this comic series several times before on the site, including an interview with the authors, and if you haven’t gotten around to it yet, it’s certainly a must-read, which you can now order online.

Get into the Spirit of ‘DuckTales’:

Sadly, one is currently unable to visit the street of Duckburg or it’s neighboring town, St. Canard, but fans can still find ways to incorporate DuckTales into their everyday lives. Whether it’s by driving your coworkers crazy by humming the tune of DuckTales all-day or diving head first into whatever money you have left after the D23 Expo, there are many ways to get into the spirit of the world that Scrooge McDuck and his nephews inhabit. However, we don’t recommend traveling to the Bermuda Triangle, taking on an organized crime mob with similar looking members, or taking a flight at any time with Launchpad McQuack.

Watch the Premiere Live on Disney XD

Above all else, sit back, relax and be amazed by the beauty and the entertaining spectacle of what the new series has to offer. We’ll be glued to our TVs to witness the return of this great series, and I’m sure the show is in great hands with new showrunners Matt Youngberg and Frank Angones. The series is in the hands of those who care deeply about the characters and we’re sure the results will be great, and that is truly something to celebrate.

DuckTales airs this Saturday on Disney XD. Check your local listings for airtimes.

  1. Is there any chance of doing reviews of Fanagraphics’ line of Disney books? I think this blog should talk more about these great comics.
