The Museum of Moving Image in Astoria, Queens NY is home not only to an endless array of items bound to delight any cinema lover but this July saw the opening of their spectacular new permanent addition, The Jim Henson Exhibition, which we were honored to attend and share earlier this summer. Next month on October 9th, Columbus Day, the good people at MoMI are hosting a new event in conjunction with The Jim Henson Legacy and the folks at We Got This podcast. The event will ask guests and fans to vote on both their favorite episode of The Muppet Show and any of the Jim Henson-helmed Muppet movies. We Got This will be recording their episode live, and the winning episode and movie with the most votes will immediately be screened to all those in attendance. In addition, Muppet performer Stephanie D’Abbruzzo, Jim Henson Legacy president Craig Shemin, The Venture Bros co-creator Doc Hammer, and actor John Hodgeman will join the We Got This to determine an ultimate winner.
“Mark and I are lifelong fans of the Muppets,” said Hal Lublin, courtesy of the press release provided by The Jim Henson Legacy. “We’re honored to be partnering with The Jim Henson Legacy, whose efforts to preserve and share his work is a gift to fans and an inspiration to future generations. And we’re particularly excited to be recording at the Museum of the Moving Image, an organization we’ve admired for many years. It’s the perfect partnership!”
The best part is, MoMI’s voting includes episodes that were not released by Disney on DVD, specifically those from seasons four and five. Wanted to watch your favorite John Denver, Star Wars or Paul Simon episode since 2004, or even better, see it on a big screen? Now’s your chance! In addition in a separately ticketed event, the museum will screen one of Jim Henson’s Muppet masterpieces on the big screen. Does it get better than that?
